It’s been pretty hot lately so I’m using that as an excuse to not work much on my cabin dream. But that’s not really why. I’ve been doing my normal things where I check realtor.ca for available land and homes in the areas that I’m interested in being in for my budget. But these things don’t really move the project ahead. So I’m writing some stuff here to hopefully remind myself to work on it.
- Call the mortgage guy and find out how the mortgage money would work for building. I know I’d need a land loan and then a building loan which would be converted into a mortgage. But what I need to know is how much cash I would need and at what frequency. Can the building permit be included in the loans?
- Call the county to find out if the down payment assistance includes building.
- Find out who can tell me about all of the various subsidies for building. I’m not even sure where to go and internet searches seem tricky.
For buying, I don’t need to do anything other than continue to save money while looking for the perfect place. But to move forward on the other part, I need to get moving on those three things. Because depending on the answers to those questions, I might find that I can buy the land now and build later.
The image on this post is what I hope to build. It’s a 1 bedroom so I would need to have an additional room added for my mom for when she comes to live with me. But it’s perfect!!! You can find it at Discovery Dream Homes!
