Kitties

Earlier today I almost wrote a post at lunch time but I decided it would be better to write it later, after dinner. Now I can’t remember what I wanted to write about. So I figured I’d just free-write for a bit and see what comes out.

My kitties are getting along decently well. Percy has been with me for 3 whole weeks now. Moss let Percy have his way until just yesterday. Yesterday, Moss starting putting his paws down with the kitten. Percy is not allowed to play with Moss’s favourite cat nip toy. Nor can he sit in Moss’s favourite spot on the couch. They have been playing chase for a couple of weeks but they’ve started wrestling now. No blood so far but the kitten is definitely getting punched by the old boy.

I’m so happy that I got Percy. I just look at him and think about how much I love him. His little paws and his cute eyes. I completely … I want to pinch the cheeks and scritch the chin and rub the belly!!! He is a handful. He literally bounces. I need to try to get a video of him doing it. I don’t remember Moss jumping/bouncing like Percy is.

Moss will be 10 next month. I’m worried he might be getting arthritis. My past two kitties who have passed away both had arthritis. Ebby, I had to put down because his arthritis had gotten to a point where he was in too much pain. Then Lister’s arthritis was on his back in a place that it was impacting his bowels and that was just making his cancer worse and worse. I’m hoping that Percy will help Moss stay mobile. Moss doesn’t play with me as much as he used to. So far, he’s playing with Percy for a couple of hours every day.

Weather

It has been hot. 30-32C almost every day for the past 3 weeks with no rain. It has been raining the past 3 days though, we’ve needed it!!! Canada is literally on fire. Only Nunavut and PEI are without fires. Ontario and Quebec aren’t as bad this year as previous years.

The Canadian Wildland Fire Information System site is neat! It lets you go back in time to look at the fires. It goes back to 2000. You can see a big uptick in the fires in the past 5 years. I wonder if there is a timelapse of that map because this site let’s you get a map for each day.

I don’t really feel good about the future of our world and I’m a bit in disbelief that I’m going to see some of the things that they warned us about when I was a kid actually happen. I’m already seeing it happen. Our winters are different. Our summers are different. Both are more extreme. Winters are shorter. Summers are longer. The poles are melting. We’ve created plastic-rock hybrids. Plastic is being added to the sediment layers. If this place exists in the future and mankind somehow hasn’t all died off, maybe this time period will be known as the plastic era.

I wonder if this sort of doom and gloom view of the environment is why I want to be in the woods so much. Enjoy what nature is left for as long as I can? That could be part of it, perhaps, but I don’t think it was one that was in the forefront of my thoughts.

Dating

How is dating going? I think I’m on the wrong app to be honest. I’ve met a couple of people who are very nice that I’m getting to know. But a lot of the suggested people are just not what I’m into. I’m getting a lot of people who say liberals ruin their day and that they are vax free and proud. Maybe I just need a super dislike button! There is a super like button. I want a super dislike button.

But if I don’t find anyone on Bumble by the time my subscription runs out, I’ll just try a different app. Facebook Dating might be an option for my aged people who aren’t in tech. But I’ll leave that until the end. Hinge would be next, I think. Although, that could be for younger kids. Not sure. I’ll wing it.

Meeting people and making friends is kind of fun. I’d like to do more of it.

I still haven’t found any hobby groups. I’ll probably have to consider taking my atheist ass to church just for the social groups that sometimes include crafts.

Anyway, I think it’s time for bed for me and some kitten snuggles!
