Spent some time tonight working on the site layout but didn’t come up with anything that I liked. The image in the header is way too big and I’ve not figured out how to make it smaller yet. I need to fix up these blog pages stat! Also I need to make a blog browsing page or whatever. I probably should have made my own template. I might still. Needs some changes but I’ll do them another time.

Dear Future Me, I know you’re looking at this and noting that nothing has changed. I’m sorry but you know we aren’t the fastest at doing some things. And you should be proud of me for starting before everything was perfect for a change.

In recent Entertainment News:

Today, Ozzy Osborne died. It’s pretty sad because he seemed larger than life as many of the old guard rock stars do. Definitely an icon. I’ve been humming No More Tears since I read the news.

Image of Malcom-Jamal Warner standing in front of a backdrop with the word "Fox" on it along with "TCA". Credit for the image reads, Frazer Harrison/Getty Malcolm-Jamal Warner attends the FOX Summer TCA 2018 All-Star Party at Soho House on August 2, 2018

Malcolm-Jamal Warner died on Sunday. For the younger folks, he played Theo Huxtable. Oh wait, you might not know that name either. He played Sex Offender (allegedly?) Bill Cosby’s son on The Cosby Show. I watched that show religiously growing up and I had such a crush, at one point, on Theo.

Those aren’t links by the way! This isn’t some news site or anything.

I think the final entertainment news thing that I’ve been looking at a lot lately is the cancellation of Stephen Colbert on the Late Show. It’s pretty clear that the termination of the highest rated show on CBS was politically motivated. It’s actually a big deal and another step in the erosion of free speech in the US. But I don’t feel like talking politics tonight, at least not with the proper nuance things topics like this deserve. I will say, I do not support the suppression of speech (excluding hate speech – I fully support suppressing that) and shutting down a show that pokes fun at politicians and their antics. Satire and comedy go all the way back to the middle ages with the Court Jesters. It’s a powerful form of communication and a very weak man with a very strong ego is running rampant seemingly unchecked.

GRRRR no more of that tonight!!

In Life Things:

Booked Percy’s first vet appointment. He’ll be going on Aug 4th so a week after I get him. He’ll be 10 weeks by then so a bit behind on his vax schedule but better late than never.

I hate blood taken today. When I was checking in, the lady said, “you didn’t have to fast for this but when was the last time you ate or drank anything?” I had fasted. It was 3:40PM and I was very, very hungry. So yeah. That happened. Anyway, I procrastinated getting my blood taken. The doctor wanted to have the results before my appointment tomorrow buuuuuttttt I only did it today. The procrastination is something I am struggling with lately. It’s procrastination only with specific things like getting blood work and taking down my recycle.

My work goals were entered mostly correctly and my boss will finish up my mid-year review. So that went well. Since my VP is talking a lot about “vibe coding” and telling us we have to start using AI to figure out how to make it help with our work, I used ChatGPT to make my goals sound more professional. I got an email from ITSecurity today saying that they saw I used generative AI on a company device that was not Copilot. Now I have to recreate a pile of my conversations about mortgages with Copilot without being able to copy the prompts from GPT since they won’t let me on the GPT site at all without triggering another email.

The most interesting thing, to me, is that the training material that they linked stated very clearly that we are to report hallucinations and biases to our LLM team. I’m wondering if the higher up’s really understand how wrong it can be. I’m going to throw it at my next analysis and see what it can do compared to what I do. I want to see if the numbers match.

AI Things

I’m on the fence with GenAI. I’d love to be able to say, no I’m not going to use it but it’s literally a mandated goal at my work and I’m not going to quit my job over this. If I’m going to be replaced, I’m going to have a hand in it, if I can. And I do think it’s helpful in a lot of cases but I object to it replacing humans entirely. It is so destructive on our environment but it’s already here. I do think that it will take over by 2050 and, honestly, we deserve it. I’m a bit of a nihilist sometimes!

To prove that it’s here and there isn’t much escaping it, I have a drag and drop block in WordPress that will add an AI Search to this blog page but it costs $11.95 CAD a month and I’m not willing to pay that for an example. If you want to give me $12, I’ll add it. DM, me on Bluesky and I’ll give you my PayPal LOL. (That’s a joke btw)

ABRUPT TOPIC CHANGE…

Photo of the author Jenn (pStabs) circa 1978

This is a picture of me when I was about 3. Cute huh? This was before all of the stuff that happened in my early childhood. One day I’ll tell my story.

Sweet little me. If I could give you a hug, I would.

If I could tell you anything, it would be that you’ll always land on your feet. Sometimes the landing is harder than you’d like but you always figure it out. I’m sorry that the adults in your life failed you. For some, it wasn’t their faults. For others, they have to own their selfishness but you don’t have to carry that. It’s not your failing, it’s theirs. Your empathy and compassion are strengths, don’t let anyone tell you that they are signs of weakness.

I used to laugh when people would say that they needed to learn how to parent their inner child but just writing those words of affirmation and encouragement to the little version of me in that picture really does make me feel good. I might have to do that more often! What would you tell Past You (not including lottery numbers from the future)?

Ok time to go byeeeee!

P.S. Did you notice how I spoke to Future Me at the beginning and then spoke to Past Me at the end? Brilliant, right?
